What Does God Say? Biblical Literacy System Book 1

by Gloria Crosby

Book I is a Biblical literacy system designed for non-readers and slow readers.

The most commonly used words written by adults are introduced along with Biblical words. Simplified Biblical stories introduce the student to reading.

The alphabet and small and capital letters, are introduced by symbols and sounds. Symbols and sounds are illustrated using key words from a simplified Biblical story.

The Biblical concepts of: God, creation, Jesus, sin, repentance, and believing in Jesus are taught in Book I. Also taught is Scripture relating to salvation, some Biblical names, and the story of Esther.

Numerals and dollar and cent amounts are used and explained. The period, comma, quotation marks, exclamation point, apostrophe, colon, hyphen, and question mark are used and explained.

Vocabulary includes 169 words. These words are alphabetized in a word list at the end of Book I. Each word is used in story context, review format, Scripture pages, or in instructions. Good News For You, a correlated reader, is provided for extra Biblical instruction in certain lessons.

Homework practice pages are at the end of Book I. Assign and explain review pages after student completes Book I. Three words - I, the, and - account for 10 percent of all the running words in print. Students mastering these 3 are 10 percent correct spellers.

Ten words - I, the, and, to, a, you, in, we, for, of - account for 25 percent of all the running words in the average adult writing vocabulary. Students mastering these 10 are 25 percent correct spellers.

One hundred words are 65 percent of the running words written by adults. Book I introduces 50 of the first 100 running words written by adults, plus other key words necessary for an adult reading, writing, and listening vocabulary.

Begin instruction on page two. Teacher instructions are given on each page.
